It was finished at the beginning of the XVIIth century and it took place of the older and smaller church. The economical development may be the reason of the change.

The remains of the old construction can be seen on the inside of the church. At the back, under the present benches, the graves of the old church can be seen.

The church was built in baroque style and has the grandeur and the spectacularity peculiars to this style and the harmony and elegance of its classical elements.

There are three side entrances through two covered porches (one on the south an the other one on the north) united by a peculiar corridor. At the top is the bell tower.

On the inside of the church stands out the retable of the high altar. Also in baroque style the image of Saint Nicholas is on top of wreathed columns. This saint protects sea travelers and fishermen and being Orio a fishing village the church is dedicated to him.

On the left side of the transept there is a beatiful image of Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
