In Orio, rowing has grown in importance over the past few year. It was a century ago when Orio took the first of the 31 flags which it has won in the regattas of The Concha of Donostia – San Sebastian.
Rowers of Orio use to train in the Oria river and is there where you´ll have the occasion to feel rower yourself in 3 different kinds of boats: trawler, kayak and raft.

IMAG13262.- EUSKADI AND ROWING

The experience begins at Arraunetxe, the rowing and boating training center in Orio. There, with the aid of audio-visuals and the different resources at the center, a professional guide will introduce you to a fascinating world in which seafaring tradition meets the sporting activities of rowing and traineras.

Descriptions of whaling and the associated industry, expeditions to Newfoundland or the change from a job to sport, introduce you to the background of rowing, to then bring you up to date with the competition sport: types of boat, championships, techniques, equipment and so on.

The most "active", intense part of the experience comes next, on one of the traineras that competes for the Flag at La Concha. For an hour you'll have the chance to feel like a rower, with the help of a local trainer with wide experience of rowing and a large number of medals under his belt.
To finish off, after a visit to the center's cutting-edge facilities which year after year welcome the European rowing elite, you'll head for the Satxota cider house. There you'll find out about the link between the sea and cider, you'll be able to see a traditional cider press which is still in use and, of course, you'll have the chance to try the cider made there.
